Welcome to Ireland’s premier site dedicated to Sit-on-Top Kayak angling, the only site devoted to kayak angling throughout the island of Ireland. This site was established in 2007 and has evolved into a comprehensive collection of sit-on-top kayaks, where you will learn through reports and articles as well as teaching us by sharing your own knowledge in our Sit-on-top Angling Forum. This site is for the beginner and experienced anglers alike. From simple questions about how to attach your backrest to your kayak to choosing a paddle, the best Fish Finders available, to what knee straps and a paddle-leash are for, to discovering new fishing destinations, organising kayak fishing meets in your area or joining in on a meet and posting catch reports or just you’re memorable day out maybe an encounter with Dolphins, Seals or Basking Sharks. That would be worth a bit of bragging.
We often get asked the question, “Why would you fish from a kayak when you can hire a perfectly good charter boat?” we have a simple answer for this . We use a kayak so that we can go where and when we want to, where it’s too shallow for the bigger boats and to steep or rocky a coast line to fish from. The same with estuary’s fishing where it is to muddy to wade. It opens up a whole new experience combining Sea Kayaking and Sea Angling. You will see our beautiful coast line from a whole new perspective whether you catch fish or not. But in saying that you are almost guaranteed to increase you’re fishing catch, and limit the loss of tackle. By addition of a Fish-Finder those reef and sandbanks that have alluded you from the shore will now be precisely fished on any state of tide.
It is a simple case of just grabbing your kayak and some fishing gear knowing what the tides and weather will be like. Letting one know your travel plan (Where and When you’re coming back). Launching at your favourite fishing mark, paddling out past the onslaught of Mackerel bashers or to that hidden mark you have found. What could be simpler and you don’t have to learn Eskimo rolls and so long as the hatches are closed you don’t have to worry about spray decks or been swamped by water as Sit-on-Tops are self bailing with the moulded self scupper hole.
To sum up Kayak Angling it’s been at one with your fishing and environment, what could be more peaceful and enjoyable
We hope you enjoy the site and find it informative, enough so that you’ll take up this growing branch of sea fishing in Ireland. Maybe some day we’ll meet up.
Look forward to it.
