Mulroy Bay 27th May 2010

I had a friend over from North Wales staying with us and had suggested a day out on the kayaks to him,so he was well up for a go at it as he was thinking about buying one himself soon, So Organised things a bit and arranged it for today (thursday). Was hoping to go out on the Swilly but with blustery conditions and some heavy showers this morning the swilly was out of the question!! So decide to head over the hill to Mulroy Bay, to see what it was like, It wasnt too bad, wind creating a short chop and the odd squall but with shelter from the islands, we decided we would have a go anyway. :D

My mate had not been on a kayak before so I gave him a few pointers and spent some time in the shallow, sheltered waters so he could get comfortable with the kayak and his sitting position.. so once sorted, off we went across the bay..

The gusts when they came were fairly strong, and we got pelted by an almighty shower as we crossed but he got on fine and seemed happy enough.. :D :D
We did a bit of Island hoping just to break it up a bit and stop him seizing up  :D
Paddled over to the mussel farmers for a chat, thought we were mad I am sure out in the lashing wind and rain!!

So then the rain died down a bit, so we tied up and started fishing :D
Didnt have long to wait before I landed the first thornie it wasnt a bad size probably around the 5lb mark.. then I hooked a baby one very cute and lovely markings.. :D Next up was a Dog, mike hooked into his first fish which was another dog.. we had a run of dogs then hitting bait as soon as it hit bottom!! :D :D Was thinking about a move when I got a double thornie hook up, Mike then landed his first ever Thornie well chuffed he was :D

Had a few more after that, before having to make a P.stop to a nearby Island!!

It was a funny day out we had some nice sun shine and calm weather between the wind and showers.. wind seemed to change direction all the time, but was a grand day out considering conditions and fishing was good as we prob only fished for about an hour and a half..producing around about 6 dogs and 8 thornies.

Plus I think another man has been hooked to our great pastime   He is already thinking about buying one!!!
Enjoyed taking him out, great to see someone really enjoying their time out on the water :D :D
