With sublime weather conditions forecasted it was time to get the tent back out and entertain the minions, location Wexford which has everything for the family i.e good fishing!!

Tent set up at Ferrybank again this year, great place to sit back and relax and frustratingly watch the droves of Mullet cruising by.

I’ve been wanting to try a couple of hours in to darkness from the yak and no better place to trial this method than the safe waters of Rosslare strand. Conditions were perfect on Sunday evening so I loaded up with crab and headed out to start a drift.

Kayak: Ok Prowler 15

Tide: Hw @ 11:00 Monday

Weather: Glorious

I decided to escape the nightmare that is Belfast over the 12th July . loaded up the Landrover and buggered off to Strangford for a few days
With light winds forecast from the NW i decided to launch at the turn of the tide from the Ballydorn lightship paddle out past Trasnagh and make a beeline for the Dorn
The Dorn not only boasts one of the few marine waterfalls in Ni but also a neolithic hill top fort

Weather:Flat Calm

Bait:Feathers/Spinners

Rigs:

Results: Pollock, Mackerel, Codling

Had a couple of free day’s, the forecast looked decent, so I decided to head for the beautiful Kerry, Derrynane beach near Caherdaniel was somewhere I always wanted to investigate, I left home Monday afternoon took my time on the way down and arrived around 8.30pm, by the time got the tent up and all the gear organised I decided to leave the yak and fish from the shore, drew a blank but did suss out a few good spots with the tide being out.
I woke up 5.30am to what I can only describe as a spectacular morning….
when I got out on the water I paddled straight to one of the spots I had picked out the night before, my plan was to try and catch some mackerel for bait in my search for that first elusive Bass..

I paddled down to begin another drift and was just nearing the end of it when the rod gave three good knocks and then bent double . there was no give in it at all . I thought it was caught on the bottom So began reeling in to get the yak over the snag and hopefully free it , As I got a bit closer to the snag .. the rod went mental again . 9 weight rod bend double I had to hold on with both hands to try and get the fish up.. I was honestly expecting a double to surface, but No it was about 6lb what a fight that fish gave and fantastic on the fly

The photo doesn’t really do it justice . although I’m sure Mark will back me up on its size
