This year Kayak Angling Ireland are yet again kick starting the summer meet season by joining up in Mulroy Bay, Co. Donegal to enjoy some of the fun that the resident thornback rays can give.
For those of you that have never been to Mulroy before you are sure to be amazed, nestled in the tranquil countryside of the Irish Northwest, lies this picturesque bay. If you didn’t know it you would swear that you were on a fresh water lough somewhere, all you are missing is the trout jumping all around you.
The fishing is good, last year all 10 member of Kayak Angling Ireland that attended this meet managed to catch the target ray species as well as a good scattering of lesser spotted dogfish thrown in for good measure. Most of the fishing is done within 300 meters of dry land, so if you are a beginner or a nervous yakker, then what better place to start, surrounded by friends and fish.
After a good days fishing, the crew usually assemble on one of the sheltered islands where tents are pitched, camp fire lit and barbeques produced. This is where the main craic for the day starts and goes on into the very early hours of the morning. If you’re able to stomach it, what better way to throw off the cobwebs and hangover the following morning than to hit the bay again and get a few more bites?
If this sounds like your thing then why not come along and join in the craic? It doesn’t matter if you’re a member with 1000 posts or 1 post, all are more than welcome. We will be meeting in the car park at Woodquarter at about 9 AM on Saturday 7th May 2011.
