Anchor Trolley

right lads, not to sound too condescending i hope, but heres the simple version of an anchor trolley set up . as most hopefully know by now IT AINT ROCKET SCIENCE

of course some may have different variations on this ,and as far as these set-ups go id say …if it works for you then thats just groovy

anyway,on with the show…

here you see the front end of the system.simply a spring clip, short length of bungy cord about 4mm diameter and a little line roller. It can be attatched to ANY point on your yak but the further forward you fix it -the more streamlined you can make your yak in the tide or waves.
at the other end, surprise surprise..exactly the same! as far back as possible ,for the same reasons as above.

ok so far so good (and simple for space cadets  )
next is the bit your anchor line will pass through, its just two or three spring clips making the whole line one big loop.

try to get stainless clips and hardware if possible ,especially the little rollers, but the clips dont need to be if you cant get stainless ones.
right, now the actual anchor line thats attached to whatever anchor your using ( not too heavy or too light) goes through one of the clips.

when im deploying my anchor i just toss it over the side ,obviously holding onto the line to feed out enough then when ive hit the bottom i allow enough line to get a decent angle for the anchor to `take` on the bottom.dont expect to be held in the tide if your anchor is simply bumping alond almost directly below your yak.
this pic shows the anchor line deployed towards the front of the trolley system

to change your position on the water you simply pull the trolley `loop`untill your line is in the position you desire, usually front or rear so the waves arnt slapping you side on.
now..onto the actual anchor itself.
you really should be using at least half a meter of chain to help keep the anchor weighted down on its side so aiding its grip on the bottom.
but what if your anchor gets snagged? wouldnt it be better if you could pull it out of any snags by the front so the legs fold back? indeed it would so if you look at this next pic closly you,ll see ive initially tied the chain to the point of the anchor then returned the chain back up the shaft of the anchor and attached it with a cable tie.
the idea is that if i get snagged i can pull hard on the anchor line and hopefully the cable tie will snap -allowing me to then be pulling the anchor by its front instead of its rear.
have a look,

and there it is. easy peasy lemon squeezy.

one thing further, some guys like to use a little bouy attached to their anchor line in case they have to disconnect from anchor in a hurry and havent time to pull it up.
i dont use one myself.

hope this has been of help and puts an end to the loooooooooooooooooooong list of requests for an anchor trolley tutoriel  :D

if ive missed anything then you can pm me and i,ll revise as needed.

happy yakking.
