Console/mount platform for Islander Strike

I was looking into some form of front “console” for my Islander. For those that have seen the islander will know there is quite a bit of “wasted” curved space in front of your feet where they have a scotty mount fitted in the centre. Well I wanted a kind of removable platform for there, so I could mount GPS, camera etc.
I was going to go for the scotty Triple mount to fit straight onto the scotty mount on the Yak, but once you look at the price, then add in the various other scotty bits to connect to it, I was looking at best part of £100, so I decided to make my own “console” out of a piece of 8mm perspex I had lying in the garage.

The Job was very simple:
Cutting out the shape I wanted and sanding the edges was a quick job with the old Dremmel. I then drilled a hole in the centre to allow my rod holder a snug fit through it.
Carefully applying heat to the perspex allowed me to bend the front and side to the shape I needed to match the Yak. I also glued some pieces of tough foam to act as “feet”.

Next I tested, drilled and fitted my Camera Mount, (the base is attached to the perspex, the extendable pole easily unscrews)

Using the Rod holder to secure it in place works well, and means it can be removed in seconds should I wish.

I think it does the job well and gives me 3 flat areas with which to attach gadget mounts (I have one for my GPS arriving in the next day to so, then it will get bolted on)

Another pic showing it fitted with the foam “feet”

Started to enjoy this yak modding now, wonder what I can do next :)

Will
