Fitting an Eagle Cuda to a Prowler 13

I was going to fish in the Dun Laoghaire area this evening but when I got there the water was too choppy to be comfortable when getting nothing and I am a fair weather yakker so I didnt bother going out. Instead I decided to rig the fishfinder that I have been putting off and off and off

When I bought the yak it came with an Eagle Cuda 300, this is a FF that I have used before and found it good so I would have bought the same one anyway.

Anyway, first step was to select a location for the transducer, it should be as close to the centre of the yak as possible so that the transducer doesnt lift out of the water with a choppy sea. Then clean and sand the area, this helps give the glue something to stick to.

I opted to use Areldite 2 Part Epoxy Resin as again i had used this before and had no problems with it. I used half a tube of resin and same again in hardener.

Coat the transducer in as much resin as you can get on it as this will help to ensure that it stays stuck but you will get ot off if you need to replace the FF at some stage in the future.

Position the transducer in your selected sanded spot, keep it held in place for about 10 minutes to allow the resin a chance to harden, I found that at this stage I was able to leave it set on its own and just gave it the odd nudge as it was settling to correct any slippage. It doesn’t really matter what direction you mount the transducer in, i.e. the cable can be pointing aft or stern, the image on the screen will be same.

Once hardened you can turn your attention to the wiring. I removed the pad eye that is located at the front centre of the cockpit

and drilled through the remaining recess. I used one of these drill bits, not a clue what they are called but this one was a PERFECT fit for the cable for the VDU

That was the easy bit  then came some brain searching to figure out how to rig something so that the i could fit the VDU through the existing holes that came supplied. I was trying to play around with a piece of the plastic that came with the yak and FF when i got them. Then i came up with the idea of cutting the platic to fill the recess that the prowler has, drilled recesses into the back of the plastic to accomodate bolts and then bolted the screen mount to the plastic and cut any bits of the bolts off so they were flush with the back of the plastic.
Its not too clear here but hopefully you get the idea

Now all i need is 2 wing bolts tomorrow and im away in a hack :D
